I forgot how to live

until I woke in a field

with a bundle of kindling

on my chest

that I lit

with your mirror

in the great plain sun.

I forgot how to move

until you took

my hand.

“Come with me baby,

I’ll show you, let’s run!”

And we raced

alongside a train

we knew

we couldn’t stop.

I forgot how to fall

until I found the leaves

on the path we made

between the trees,

throwing our kite

in the air

and tumbling

to the mud caked ground.
